A recreated interface for an invented school — not a running system.
Why this exists
A school is not a small university.
We have been building administration software for congregations, colleges and clubs for years. Building the fourth system made one thing clear: for schools, changing the labels is not enough.
At eighteen the model flips
The student excuses themselves, and the parents' right to information ends. In the upper years this happens mid-term, on a different date for every student.
Absence is compulsory-schooling law
In a club, attendance is information. At school it is a legal duty, and the record has to hold up.
Who may do what
The parent model others get wrong.
Software that treats „parent" as one role pushes schools into exactly the mistakes that end up in court: the report goes to the wrong person, or information is withheld from someone entitled to it. Here the relationship between child and adult is an object of its own, with rights.
Joint custody
Separated parents may both excuse an absence and both receive the report — delivered separately on request.
No custody, still entitled to information
Someone without custody cannot excuse an absence — an excuse is an exercise of parental responsibility. They may still request information about the child's progress (section 1686 BGB).
Collection without custody
The grandmother, the neighbour: may collect, nothing else. On the screen at the gate, not on a note.
Exactly one primary contact
In an emergency the office calls one person, not three. The system allows no second.
Violations are reported
A tick box that is silently cleared is worse than an error message: the office sets it, never sees it again, and does not know why.
Open points, not a blockade
On the first day of term some things are still open. A system that blocks enrolment gets worked around — one that names the gap gets worked through.
Class changes mid-year
The normal case, not the exception. Class membership is a period, not a tick.
Court orders on file
Why the rights are set as they are belongs on record — and is itself sensitive.
Access is logged
Whoever sees grades or fee bands leaves a trace.
For parents
An account that opens even at a parents' evening.
Light pages without loading bars — reception in a school hall is poor.
Report an absence in two taps
With date, reason and a traceable author. An excuse without a recognisable sender is not an excuse.

Available at any time, years later too — requests for duplicates sometimes arrive decades on.
Your own invoices
The amount is on it, the income band is not. That is nobody's business in the office.

Parents' evening, school trip, outing — with accept and decline.
Only your own children
Parents with several children at the school see them together. They never see anyone else's.
School fees
Scaled, because it has to be.
Under Article 7(4) of the German constitution, independent schools may not promote segregation of pupils according to their parents' means. An income-scaled fee is therefore not an add-on to retrofit later — it determines the shape of the fee structure.
Income bands
With a recorded assessment and a validity period. The assessment is sensitive and is held tightly.
Sibling reduction
Automatic, across all classes and year groups.
Individual reductions
With a reason and an end date — so that in three years it is still clear why.

Gapless invoice numbers
No gaps, even when a booking is rolled back — that gap is exactly what an audit looks for.

Who pays is not always who excuses. Both are tracked separately.
Returned debits as counter-entries
Voided, never deleted.
Reports
The grading scale is configuration, not code.
There is no universal grading scale. Germany uses 1–6 with tendencies, 0–15 points in the upper years, different report forms in every federal state; in Mauritius private colleges follow Cambridge with A–F. A number in the source code would already be wrong for the second customer.
The scale is data
Scale, rounding rule and pass mark live in your database, not in the source code. Moving to another jurisdiction is a setting, not a rebuild.
Subject and conduct grades apart
Conduct runs on its own scale — compulsory in some jurisdictions, expressly forbidden in others.
Reports are never deleted
Only marked void. Retention periods are long, and a request for a duplicate sometimes arrives decades later.
A public verification endpoint
A report code can be checked without a login — the page confirms authenticity and shows no grades.
Explicitly not: no AI grading, no AI-assisted promotion decisions. Educational institutions appear in Annex III of the EU AI Act. That is high risk and is not something we build on the side.
